Top 5 Gaming Headphones for 2024

Everyone loves a good over-ear headphone for gaming. More and more companies are realizing how popular online gaming has become, there seems to be a never-ending list of things to choose from. How do you know which one is best? Today, we’ve compiled a list of all the top gaming headsets that are on the market today to put side by side. Hopefully this will help you start your search for a headset to fit all your gaming needs. Note: not all of these headsets are strictly gaming ones, but they make for a worthy competitor when put against on-brand ones.

1. Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro – $299

These headphones are a latest release from beyerdynamic, and they are a great new addition to their line of other gaming headphones. The MMX series from beyerdynamic has done nothing but give us quality and clever imaging, which is great for immersive gameplay. The simple setup and microphone with precise pickup gives users a top-quality gaming experience that is hard to beat. For less than $500, it comes in at a good price that won’t scare people away.

2. Audeze Maxwell – $299

The Maxwell headphones come in two models: one for Playstation, Mac, and PC, and the other for Xbox. The versatility of the Maxwell, and many flexible features, gives users all the comfort of choosing how they listen and game with these over any other brand. The detachable microphone and option for wireless listening is all about giving players the most personalized experience they can get, all without compromising the sound you get. During my testing, I found these to have a tight wear around the head, and it was personally a bit tiring to wear because of it. Nevertheless, the wide soundstage paired with startlingly accurate imaging makes these a great addition and should not deter anyone from trying them out.

3. Final Audio UX3000 – $129

This is another pair that won’t break the bank while still giving you great quality. Final Audio never ceases to impress me with their sound quality, so it’s no surprise that this brand made the list. Though the soundstage is a bit narrower than most, the level of detail makes up for that as well as the comfortable pads that cushion your head. Bluetooth listening is a great bonus for those who hate gameplay with wires in the way, and it comes in a few different colors to match your gaming setup. There’s no attached microphone with these, but at a sub-$200 price, it’s a sacrifice that won’t be missed.

4. Audio-Technica ATH-GL3 – $99

Audio-Technica is a great brand for high quality sound, and they stay consistent in that theme for their gaming headset. The soundstage is impressively wide, especially as a closed back headphone, and it provides a dynamic frequency range that is crisp and clear. I know that people will find video game sound effects to be incredibly detailed and truly immerse them in their gameplay. Their other headphones like the xM50 STS are also a great purchase for audiophiles and gamers alike.

5. Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless – $199

If you’re a fan of wireless gaming, beyerdynamic’s earlier models may be for you. It says a lot to the quality of beyerdynamic for them to appear twice on a list of top 5, but they deserve the spots. The MMX 200 delivers a lot of the same great quality sound that you’d get in the MMX 300 Pro, but without the cumbersome cable that might be annoying to some audiences. Clear frequency details and a wide soundstage is what you’re in store for with these, at a price you can’t beat.

This is just a short list of some of the gaming headphones that are on the market today. To find what’s right for you, I highly suggest trying them out and seeing how they sound for yourself. Everyone’s ears are different, and so are their gaming needs!
